Students, we want to hear from you too! Click here to go to your profile survey and tell us what you think for a chance to win a £20 voucher! We asked Ana to tell us about winning I’m an Engineer, and here is what she said… A few months ago, my very good friend, also fellow scientist and enthusiastic STEM ambassador (which was in fact, the person that got me into to being one) forwarded me the link to I’m an Engineer for me to apply. Possibly because I looked it up quickly on the phone whilst commuting, I read it quickly and thought that the deadline was already gone. For some reason, a few days after, I looked at it again thinking: ‘this would be soooo cool’ and realised that I was still on time for the March edition and decided to apply, again, thinking, that there was no chance I could ever get in. … Continue reading
The students have spoken. The votes have been double counted… Big congratulations to the Artificial Body Zone winner: Ana Gallego Hard luck to Daniel Morse and Zach Welshman but a huge thank you to everyone who took part. You were all brilliant. Students, don’t forget to tell us what you think about science and engineering now you’ve taken part. Log in to your profile, and fill in the 4 questions in the pink box on the right hand side, to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
We’ve counted, checked and rechecked the votes and now reveal it’s game over for… Todd Burton This leaves just “passionate, motivated, science-geek” Daniel Morse, “crafty, curious, easy-going” Ana Gallego and “Irish, geek, no-frills” Zach Welshman to fight it out for the £500 prize tomorrow. Who would you like to see win tomorrow’s final battle? VOTE
We’ve counted the votes and you’ve now evicted… Alejandra Aranceta The engineers left standing after tomorrow’s eviction will battle it out in Friday’s final. Who do YOU want to see in the final? VOTE for your favourite! Students, has taking part changed your view of science and engineering? When you next log in and visit your profile, you’ll see a box with 4 questions on the right. Fill in the questionnaire to be in with a chance to win a voucher.
The first engineer you’ve evicted is… Sophie Cox One engineer will be evicted every day this week, and you get a new vote each day. Make sure to VOTE to keep your favourite in the competition. A student in each zone will win a voucher for asking great questions! And remember, you can comment on questions the engineers answer. Do you think the engineer is right? Do you disagree with them? Tell them! There was a small window today where our emails weren’t going out as they should, so make sure you go to your profile to check to see if your questions have been answered. Remember you can ask more questions.
The Artificial Body Zone is funded by Wellcome. The Engineers Daniel Morse | PhD Student, Cardiff University I look at how fungi and bacteria from the mouth interact and cause infections, how the cells in the mouth respond, and infect my own home-grown living 3D model of the roof of the mouth (which looks pretty cool under the microscope!). Ana Gallego | Materials Engineer, Blatchford I make artificial legs for amputees. Zach Welshman | PhD Student, University of Leeds I use a big expensive computer to see how the tiny bones and muscles in the foot move when you run around. Sophie Cox | Lecturer, University of Birmingham I use new materials and methods to make bone implants. Todd Burton | PhD Student, University of Edinburgh I am trying to find the best environment to grown a kidney in. Alejandra Aranceta | Research Associate, University of Strathclyde I work developing robotic arms for people that have … Continue reading
