      Hi OceanShadow!

I don’t know to be honest – by species at least. I have taken clinical samples of peoples mouths, and have grown some pretty weird looking ones, and ones that literally take over the plate and obliterate everything else!! These are likely to be Pseudomonas species, But I have also found that in the samples that I’ve taken, there are more than 350 different species of bacteria, so too many to say really!!

Also, we can only currently grow about half of them int he lab – some of them we just cant grow yet! Even though they exist in the mouth… They may rely on other microorganisms for things to eat..biproducts that others produce..Interesting stuff!

Some of them really smell though, like Porphyromonas gingivalis..it is involved in dental plaque.
